Welcome to Temple Beth Am Sisterhood!

The Sisterhood is an active and vital group of women who are professionals, stay at home moms, young women and grandmothers within the congregation who come together to enhance the lives of our members with programs that provide meaning, enjoyment and an opportunity to form new friendships!

We invite you to learn more about being part of our active community and will be offering a variety of programs and activities to meet our member needs for families, couples and Sisterhood members alike.

Upcoming Events:

Please join us on Tuesday, June 4th at 7:30 pm via Zoom to discuss "5+5=10 Commandments: Mirror Images and Spiritual Impacts." This informative discussion will be led by our own Mindy Eilender. This event is free and open to female temple members and their guests. You must register to receive the Zoom ID and password. Click here to register for this event.

Beth Am Books will be meeting Sunday morning, June 30th to discuss The Choice: A Novel of Love, Faith, and Talmud by Maggie Anton. Here is a description of the book:

The award-winning author of Rashi's Daughters, Maggie Anton, has written a wholly transformative novel that takes characters inspired by Chaim Potok and ages them into young adults in Brooklyn in the 1950s, a time of Elvis & Marilyn, communist scares & polio vaccines, Jewish migration & American integration. When Hannah Eisin, a successful journalist, interviews Rabbi Nathan Mandel, a controversial Talmud professor, she persuades him to teach her the mysteries of the text forbidden to women--even though it might cost him his job if discovered. Secret meetings and lively discussions bring the two to the edge of a line that neither dares to cross, as their relationships with each other and Judaism are tested.

This discussion will be held in a member’s home (NOT at the synagogue) so if you would like to attend, please contact Maxine Szmulewitz and she will add you to the book club group. If you have not yet read the book, you are still welcome to join the discussion. It's not too late to read the book - you can purchase the book from Amazon.

Want to help with Sisterhood in the upcoming 2024-2025 year? Sisterhood is looking for members to help plan next year's events. No experience necessary, just a positive attitude and willingness to help! Contact Susan Weiss if you would like to help next year.

And here are even more ways to participate in Sisterhood:

  • Want to donate to the Little Free Pantry but can't make it there? You can order items on the temple's Little Free Pantry Amazon Wish List and they will be sent directly to the temple office.
  • Also, bring extra books for the Little Free Library located next to the pantry.
  • Wednesday Bingo still could use more help! Bingo is one of the largest fundraisers for Temple Beth Am. We especially need volunteers to sell Bingo cards from 9:30 to 11:15 and also volunteers to work in the money room throughout the day. If you can give a couple of hours once a month on Wednesdays during the day, we would be very appreciative!  Can't make it on Wednesdays? Monday Night Bingo needs help as well.
